Description

Back for the first time since 2022, this is more than just salmon, it’s a celebration of resilience. Stronger salmon runs mean we can once again share these exceptional Sockeye, wild-harvested in our solar-powered reefnet fishery – the most sustainable wild salmon fishery on Earth. Each fish is carefully hand hauled with almost no bycatch, ensuring unmatched quality and environmental stewardship.

Why They’re Extraordinary

First, the flavor: rich, bold, and buttery. Thanks to their omega-3 packed oil content, these Sockeye are tender, moist, and full of character. That same natural richness also makes them simple to prepare — the high oil content means it’s easy to cook them to perfection, whether on the grill, in the oven, or gently poached.

Here’s the “why”: Fraser River Sockeye are genetically built for one of the longest, toughest migrations in the salmon world. Before they enter the river, they’re at their absolute peak. Brimming with fat reserves that give them both their unforgettable taste and their nearly impossible-to-dry-out texture. In fact, our reefnet Sockeye portions carry almost double the omega-3 content of typical Sockeye.

Cooking Made Simple

This is restaurant-quality fish, made simple at home. Just a sprinkle of sea salt is all you need to let the salmon shine, but if you’d like to uplevel your meal, try:

  • A drizzle of garlic butter and squeeze of fresh lemon.
  • A touch of dill and cracked pepper alongside roasted vegetables.
  • A light poach with white wine and herbs for an elegant finish.

Why Reefnet Matters

Flavor is only part of the story. Reefnetting is one of the world’s most sustainable fishing methods: selective, solar-powered, and modeled after traditional techniques used by Coast Salish tribes for centuries. By choosing reefnet-caught Sockeye, you’re supporting a fishery that protects salmon populations, respects the ecosystem, and delivers seafood of unmatched quality.

Handling & Storage

  • 22 oz whole side fillet, boneless, skin-on
  • Ships frozen with dry ice
  • Store in your freezer immediately upon arrival
  • For best results: remove packaging and thaw overnight in the fridge
  • Once thawed, enjoy within 5–7 days

FAQs About Reefnet-caught Fraser River Sockeye Salmon

How many people does one fillet serve?

Each fillet averages 22 oz, which will serve about 5-6 adults as a main dish. If you’re using the salmon in grain bowls, pastas, or salads, one portion can stretch to serve two.

Do I need to remove the skin before cooking?

No — the skin is left on and crisps up beautifully when pan-seared or grilled. It also helps keep the salmon moist during cooking. You can remove it after cooking if preferred.

Is this salmon seasonal?

Yes. Reefnet-caught Fraser River sockeye is available during a limited harvest window each year, typically in late summer. We freeze the portions at peak freshness and offer them while supplies last.

Lummi Island Wild was wonderful to work with. I had a complicated order during the holidasy and despite snow delays and the holiday rush, they were super helpful. We will definitely order from them again.

  2. O.A.E. McMurdo (verified owner)

The fillets look great! Rich dark red flesh, uniform fillets, and I can’t wait to grill them. These fillets look better than the runs of the past two years.

  3. Carole Harvey (verified owner)

Delicious fish, as always. We’ve been buying for so many years I can’t remember how long!
Recently, we ordered whole salmon fillets.
2 of the fillets had broken packages. One was open the entire length of the fish, the other just a few inches. We opened the box by hand, not with something sharp so it wasn’t caused by the way we handled the package. The box wasn’t damaged when it was delivered. I’m glad we noticed so we could re-package our purchase.
I’m not sure what would have caused this.

Hi Carole, Unfortunately it sounds like your salmon received some rough handling before delivery. Thanks for you quick work protecting the high quality we are so focused on. We’ll be following up with you.

The freshest and tastiest I’ve had. I like to blacken mine and it came absolutely perfect! Looking forward to my next order already.

  5. Jeanne Kaidy

Buttery, flavorful, and delicious. I slowly grill these fillets slathered in BBQ sauce, and serve with fresh corn fritters and Claremont salad. Wonderful summer dinner!

This keeps us healthy through N.E. winters. It is amazing. Have been getting LIW for at least the past 15 years. It’s the best and sustainably caught. Been there once to see the power of these creatures fighting the net.

  8. Nathan Keeney

We have bought Reefnet Sockeye from Lummi Island for the last 4 years and kept them in our chest freezer. This salmon is superior to every grocery store fillet I have ever purchased, and I feel much better knowing about its origin and correct handling. The frozen fillets are always pristine, cook beautifully, and have perfect tasty skin. Make sure you don’t overcook them!

I’ve been buying this fish for over a decade from Lummi Island Wild. They are my favorite salmon filets of all times.
