Smoked Salmon Price – What You Need to Know

The smoked salmon price is a bit different from regular frozen salmon options here at Lummi Island Wild. The delicacy is a delicious treat for every season, but there are a few factors that can influence cost. We strive to be as transparent as possible in our sourcing and pricing. If you’re curious about what affects smoked salmon costs, here’s what you need to know.

How Much Does Smoked Salmon Cost?

Frequent seafood buyers might notice that smoked salmon typically has a higher per-pound cost than regular salmon options. At Lummi Island Wild, there are a few reasons for this price difference. Smoked salmon requires an additional process, which includes both ingredients and time. Adding the smoking process increases our costs to produce the fish, which means our smoked salmon price will be slightly higher.

However, and perhaps more importantly, salmon loses mass during the smoking process. Researchers estimate that a salmon portion will lose between 16% and 18% of its weight once it is salted and smoked. This means consumers are often getting the same cut of salmon for roughly the same price, whether it’s smoked or unsmoked.
