Which salmon is the best on the Grill?

All of our wild salmon is great for grilling but our top recommendations are Baker King Salmon and Baker Sockeye Salmon. A typical portion of salmon per person is about 6 to 8 oz, however a 4 oz cut of salmon is enough if you have a spread or tasty side dishes.

What’s a good way to Season Salmon for grilling?

You can make a simple salmon marinade for the grill from a fat and acid in a 3:1 ratio, then add salt and an aromatic. Salmon doesn’t need to marinate for long, about 10-15 minutes will do the trick. Tip: Salmon can handle aggressive salting, it really makes the flavor pop!

How hot should my Grill be for Cooking Salmon?

You want to start out with a nice, hot grill that is about 450 degrees. If you haven’t cleaned your grill yet, make sure you clean it off while it’s still cold with a wire brush. You will want a nice even heat on your gas or charcoal grill to begin grilling your salmon.

Should I keep the salmon skin on while grilling?

You do want to keep the skin on the salmon while grilling because the skin keeps your salmon juicy and full of flavor. That’s why Lummi Island Wild salmon is special, we have the fattiest salmon with rich flavors and high in omega 3’s. The skin of the salmon will also keep your fish from falling apart on the grill. After you have grilled your salmon and let it rest, you can eat the skin or choose to remove it from your meal.

How to grill wild salmon

Let the salmon come to room temperature before cooking. Season the salmon to your liking with a marinade or rub. If you have a juicy marinade you will want to pat your salmon dry before placing it on the grill. We recommend you lightly baste your salmon skin with olive oil and a little seasoning. Place your salmon on your grill that’s heated to 450 degrees skin side down. Close the lid on your grill and cook for 6-8 minutes. If you have a thick cut of salmon or an open grill you will want about 10-12 minutes on the grill. Let your salmon rest before serving and enjoy the great taste of grilled wild salmon.
